Today, some people decided to use their 1st amendment rights to display their anger at Obama, or whatever it is he represents that is making them so angry.
What was that first Tea Party about though? Hopefully my US History class will serve me well.
The first tea party was back when America was still a group of colonies under the rule the British. The British were putting taxes and tariffs on goods and the colonies, without letting the colonists make any decisions or have anyone in government. Thus, the taxation without representation. In a small and yet almost poetic act of defiance, a group of men dressed up as Native Americans, and stormed the boats coming from britain, throwing the cargo of tea into the bay. The comedy of it probably is why it is still known today. This Boston Tea Party probably helped get the whole revolution thing underway, my details are fuzzy.
So, today, people are throwing tea parties because....
A) having less than 60 senators representing your political affiliation is unfair.
B) having 95% of people's taxes lowered isn't fair, while the top 5% pay a little more definitely isn't fair.
C) They're angry at the bailouts of large banks and Wall Street, and don't want to remember that Bush started them.
or
D) It helps you hide and forget the fact that it was your politically affiliated president that gave us this crap sandwich, and left it for the next guy to sit down and deal with.
I understand people's rights to protest and have their opinion, and I am glad that I live in a country where people have that freedom. But just being angry because it makes you feel validated, should not be the reason for the anger. Did that make sense?
Let's take Glenn Beck, wait no, Rush Limbaugh, wait no, Sean Hannity, wait no, Laura Ingraham, wait no, Greta Van Susterin, wait no, Fox news in general: Just because you act scared and enraged and yell louder than the other guy does not make your opinion the correct one. It does, however, help you get better ratings and more attention. I understand why you do this, too: because faced with the actual statistics and facts, your opinions become mute.
My only fear is that there will be enough people without enough intelligence to think for themselves, and that they will choose the opinions of fox news just because they are louder and fein emotions easier.
